Learning to Laugh
Learning to laugh is easy. Intentional laughing can help you get started. Like learning anything new, it takes practice. Try setting aside time each day to practice laughing.
All you need to do at first is fake it. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “Fake it ‘till you make it.” Evidently, the mind doesn’t know you are faking it. The same goes for smiling. Fake your smile and the mind believes you are happy.
You might think fake laughing is silly, but trust me on this, it works!
The trick is getting yourself in the mood for a laughter exercise. If you have difficulty getting to the gym, maybe it will be easier for you to laugh for a one or two minutes. Your frame of mind will most likely shift, and you will feel like you’re ready to go to the gym or go out for a walk or a jog.
One way to start laughing on our own is to think of something you did in the past that you can now laugh at. You probably didn’t think it was very funny when it happened, but now you can laugh at yourself.
Laughing will change the energy around you, and you’ll start saying, “I can do this!”
When life gets crazy for me, I often think of Tom Hanks in the 1986 movie, “The Money Pit.” Just the thought of hearing Tom Hanks laughing makes me laugh. In the movie, “The Money Pit,” Tom buys a mansion which needs major repairs and the problems just keep getting worse, which all begin to affect his relationship with his girlfriend.
He ends up laughing to get through all the bad news regarding the house. Even though it’s an oldie movie, if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend watching it.
I asked a few friends what their favorite comedy movies are and compiled a list to share with you.
